I just found your amazing blog, as I am facing the same dilemma. My son turns 3 this year and we plan to homeschool.

We are moving to a small town with *one* homeschooling group - a Christian-based one. Will I face the same prejudice? I'm afraid I might.

Like you, I'm a congenial agnostic and I probably have the same family values as this Christian group... minus the superstition. ;)

Oh, and I also have several tattoos, so I'll be sure to keep 'em covered if I meet these people.

(BTW - Does anyone here know the secret Christian handshake?!)

Hi, don't know how I got here, you know how random surfing is, but wanted to say how pretty your blog is!

And this post made me sad. I somehow feel the need to apologize for every person who calls themselves a Christian and then does stuff like that. sorry.

It seems like a lot of times people are more worried about outsides than insides which Jesus actually warned us about.

He told the religious people of His day that they were all "whitewashed" and clean on the outside but rotten on the inside. ouch.

I don't really know why they wouldn't let you teach the class, but based on your lovely blog here I would love my kiddos to take a web design class from you.

And I love Jesus.

So we're not all you know...judgmental and short-sighted.

Just thought you should know that. :)

I thought about it. I really did. I guess the problem lies in the fact that there are very few non religious programs out there for home schoolers. At least near me.

Some friends and I are working on starting our own program for this coming year so no one will have to conform.

If it had been me, I'd have hit the door when they asked for you to remove your nose ring and cover your tattoos.

I've never understood why one must be conservative to be a Christian, anyway, when Jesus shook up all the traditions of his society.

I'm an agnostic and I have long hair and I get grief about my hair from some of these "Christians". Never does it cross their minds that the men during Jesus' time, including Jesus himself, had long hair.

It seems as if their refusal to hire you is more their loss than yours.
