I want to not be a part of our school system any more. Each year, we are required to send them a letter from a teacher that says that my kids are doing well. It's a total crock. Half of the people I know don't test their kids or have their portfolios reviewed. They know people. Certified people who write their letters for them.
Does the school board actually even pay attention to us other than to use us for a number when they need money for the state? I don't think so. Is there a way to enroll my kids in a "private school" without actually paying for them to attend someplace so that they can stop having to play a circus act and pretend to be a part of a school system that we didn't like to begin with?
I have friends that have been home schooling from the beginning. They don't have to answer to anyone. Don't get included in the numbers. The county doesn't even know these kids exist. I want to be one of them.
Does anyone else have this issue? These feelings? Or am I just that bratty?
Raising 3 beautiful geeks in the 21st century isn't an easy task. Doing the above all while trying to maintain your title of "Coolest mom on the planet" is even more difficult. This blog is home to my mommy madness as I try to home school my kids into adult hood.

I am new to the home school system and It was a really rash decision so I never knew anything about testing or letters. Then people started asking me about that and I panicked a bit. I guess each state is different. Apparently where I live (idaho) you aren't required to test or have a teacher send letters. I don't know. It's all odd... But I agree with you, I want AWAY from it!
NM is pretty lax when it comes to its homeschoolers. We're suppose to register with the state each year but that's it. Most homeschoolers I know don't even bother doing that much and the state really doesn't seem to care.
I think I would be a wreck if we had to keep portfolios, test, or send letters. I'm a very unorganized person so I'd most likely forget and then.... trouble. LOL.
I don't think you are whining at all. I totally understand your point.
Oh and I finally got around to adding you to my blogroll. I'm going to add you to my HS blogroll as well (sonacreidhe.blogspot.com). :)
